Principal vs interest by year
Total repayment
Repayment schedule
How it’s calculated
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n / [(1 + r)n − 1]
P= loan amount,r= annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100,n= tenure in months.- Each month, interest = outstanding balance × r; the rest of the EMI reduces the principal. That’s why early EMIs are mostly interest.
- Assumes a fixed rate. Floating-rate loans change when the bank resets its rate. Processing fees and insurance are not included.

Minimum due vs fixed payment
Balance month by month
How it’s calculated
Each month interest (plus GST on it) is added to the balance, then your payment is subtracted:
Balancenext = Balance × (1 + r × 1.18) − Paymentr= monthly interest rate. Minimum due = chosen % of the bill, at least ₹200.- Effective yearly cost = (1 + monthly rate)12 − 1.
- Simplified: assumes no new spends, late fees or EMI conversions. Real cards also charge interest from the purchase date once you carry a balance, so actual cost can be higher.
